ABSTRACT
Sometimes architecture plan of a building might be asymmetric due to the regional and environmental conditions. In recent years many efforts has been made to evaluate the seismic response of building, especially the asymmetric torsional response. Special features of the nonlinear asymmetric structures that have caused the earthquake predict their behavior is complex, also building performance in previous earthquake, usually showed that asymmetric buildings are more vulnerable than symmetric buildings.
Shear wall system is one of the most common lateral resistant systems in high- rise and mid-high buildings. Various forms of shear walls and locating them can hardly cope with the earthquake and help structures to have more reasonable and predictable responses. Many studies have been done about design and analysis of shear walls before this; however, decide on the location of the shear wall structures, especially in asymmetric plans in mid-high buildings Much haven’t been discussed Much.
In this thesis 8 models with asymmetric trapezoid-shaped in plan arrangement of shear walls in 4 different height of 7, 10, 12, 15 floors that includes rectangular shear walls and L-shape, T-shape, U-shape and Z-shape studied, The best response to improve the performance of asymmetric structures obtained in an irregular plan .The results of non-linear time history analysis using 4 earthquake records in sap2000 software. Shear walls that are core to the provided of the building to its proper place in contain them; have the ability to efficiently increase their strength against lateral forces such as earthquakes, So-called U-shaped walls and a Z-shaped wall also raise stiffness and deceleration of the arrangement is effective. in this study sructural parameters such as accleration and drift of last story and also Relative displacement of stories and Behavior of plastic hinge, and period of building are evaluated.
